Business Cybersecurity Statistics
Three surveys in recent months explored select impacts and behavior of businesses regarding cybersecurity. The following business figures on cybersecurity can help businesses gauge their position relative to other businesses.
What do small businesses think about cybersecurity?
Small business are concerned about cybersecurity but are not doing much about their concern. Endurance International Group, a company that provides online services to small businesses, sponsored a survey of small businesses in April, 2015. Key findings about businesses indicate:
The Travelers Business Risk Index, sponsored by The Travelers Companies, a leading insurance corporation, identified the same concern level by all businesses. The biggest concern of businesses is cybersecurity, with 81% of the respondents expressing this concern. The research further indicated what they fear by risk category.
Should the government be involved?
Even though it is often thought that small businesses do not want more federal government involvement, respondents to the Endurance survey said the federal government needs to do more, and should financially support efforts of small businesses with cybersecurity protection.
What does a cyber-attack cost?
Not much information exists on small business attack costs, but the Ponemon Institute‘s 2015 survey, sponsored by IBM, tracks costs of businesses across the world. These figures are helpful for any size business to determine if action and investment are worthwhile.
The survey also found that the costs for lost business has increased. Costs identified in the survey included abnormal turnover of customers, increased customer acquisition activities, reputation losses and diminished good will.
