On January 15, 2015, the National Cybersecurity Institute (NCI) hosted a webinar entitled “Cybersecurity: Implications for Nursing Professions”.

The growing impact of cybersecurity in healthcare, which includes focusing within these organizations on protecting patient information, is highly relevant to the practice of nursing. Nursing professionals have always been central to the quality and safe provision of healthcare since the beginnings of modern medicine. For these reasons, having nurses contributing and delivering cybersecurity operations is imperative. During the webinar, attendees were introduced to the impact of cybersecurity issues in healthcare and to the financial implications of cybersecurity as well as their impact on patient care. Participants were also encouraged to join the cybersecurity process within their organization and industry.

The webinar was presented by Sean Murphy who is the Vice President at Leidos Health Solutions Group and serves as the organization’s Health Information Privacy and Security Officer. He is a health care information security expert, with nearly 20 years of experience in the field serving at all levels of health care from the hospital to an international integrated delivery system. Sean is also a fellow at the National Cybersecurity Institute.

This webinar was presented in conjunction with the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) which is one of NCI’s academic partners.
